Indie Game Squeeeee: Mew-Genics!

Mew-Genics is an upcoming title from the deliciously alternative indie development team, Team Meat, comprised of Edmund McMillen and Tommy Refenes. Mew-Genics-- recently confirmed to be a crazy cat lady sim--is shaping up to be something special that one normally wouldn't see in other sim games. Not that I'm going to do Mew-Genics the disservice of trying to compare it to other city or evolutionary sim games. No, it takes a special kind  of  fool to not recognize that Team Meat  is creating something rather special with Mew-Genics.

Most every one I know loves cats, but one can only have maybe three or four before people start wondering if you're trying to fill some sort of void in your life. With Mew-Genics I can have as many cats as the game will let me sequester in the shady recesses of my humble, low-income senior living apartment complex. It's only a simple, two-room house with an attic, but I'll be damned if I don't want to pack it full of cute, fuzzy kitties. What will I do with all those cats? In Mew-Genics, you can breed them, put them in pageants, and even freeze them in a cryogenic cube for later. Well, I'm sold.

At its core, Mew-Genics looks to be a rather robust cat breeding simulator. I'd hazard a guess that the cat lady part of the sim probably stems from the fact that, as players breed cats, they begin to fall into the behavioral pattern all sim game players eventually succumb to: the nagging and often compulsive need to grow your simulation. That's the beautiful part about Mew-Genics: Team Meat--those clever, magnificent bastards--most likely have had the insight that, by their very nature, sim games cause players to behave in rather crazy and sometimes cruel ways. Players of The Sims can back me up on that one. Unless I'm mistaken, in Mew-Genics you are the crazy cat lady, and that makes me very excited.

There's still a lot we don't know about the game, however what we have seen is looking to be something very worthwhile. From the art, design, and top-notch coding to the catchy, high-quality music, Mew-Genics is shaping up to be a must-have.
