Metal Words of Wisdom

Recently, I've been discussing with various people that I meet that the problem with society today is the fact that popular music has a lot of negative messages, while the unpopular music--such as metal--  actually has all the positive messages. We Came As Romans is a good example of a band that many would pass over just because "I can't understand what they're saying." Well, to be honest, I don't understand what rappers are saying and people still listen to them.
So I've decided to take it upon myself to not only write reviews of music and performances, I will take it upon myself to delve deep into the world of metal--to places that people just don't dare to go, and bring the mainstream world the light that has brightened my life since I was very, very young. It's also my goal to end once and for all the deranged rumors that just because you listen to metal you are undoubtedly a devil worshiper. Now, I know that there are some insane bands out there in the catagory of Death Metal... bands such as Cannibal Corpse are extremely gruesome, but let's try to focus on the lighter side of metal... One step at a time.
Here is an excerpt from the latest Machine Head album, the song is called, "Darkness Within."
"Mysteries forgotten chords,
I strum in vain to please the lord,
But he has never answered me,
And faith has waned eternaly.
In empty men who pass along,
The woes of all religions wrong,
Now the shadowed veil it falls,
Heed the Clarion call.
So pray to music,
Build a shrine,
Worship in these desperate times
Fill your heart with every note,
Cherish it and cast afloat.
Cause God is in these clefs and tones,
Salvation is found alone,
Haunted by it's melody,
Music, it will set you free."
Do you think that's devil worship? I think its beauty. And as one last appeal for the month, below is Shawn Crahan, #6 from the band Slipknot, giving us all a speech on pausing selfishness for two hours a day. This speech touched my heart, and I hope it touches yours as well. I also hope that you'll at least read into some lyrics of bands that can offer inspiring words of wisdom. Enjoy.
