MadChild Strikes Back

Long, long ago there was a Canadian rap-super group called Swollen Members who ruled the game, back in the days when MTV actually played music videos. Before the days of youtube and the rise of the Internet frenzy. They rose and rose until the fame hit them like a crash of waves and they fell on their faces, partying too hard with drugs and alcohol. And then the Battle Axe Warriors fell from the graces of angels and had to humble themselves to crawl back up the ranks.

MadChild broke away from the Swollen Members, got clean, and made an album called Dope Sick. I've been a fan of the Members because of their tenancy to be a bit nerdy, talking about dungeons and dragons, vampire, goblins, comics, etc. Their kind of the pioneers of nerd-rap. Though MadChild is now raping on his own he still has the same vibe he had with the group. His rap is a lot darker than the usual, but that's what was always so awesome about it, it was dark. This isn't a rapper who talks about getting fucked up and partying all the time, he is very serious. Sure they had one song, "Pornstar," that was pretty wild, but primarily the music is dark.

Unlike a lot of rappers that are on the airwaves now-days he actually has something to say, similar to Hopsin in some ways. "Igor, why they want to pick on little me for?" Sure Mad Child talks about his battle through his life, and how he overcame drug use, but he does it in such a bizarre and interesting way. "I don't give a fuck about a rapper with a bud, I'll happily attack him and extract a little blood." "Kill the little monster, he's obviously insane, he's probably just a goblin that has problems with his brain." I love the feel of the craziness. This rapper gives me the same vibes that I get from Korn. Like some dark mind created something very dark and beautiful. "I wake up asking, 'Don't you hear the laughing?' they don't hear it."

With this album MadChild just explodes the world all over again with his sick twisted world that he is trying to express and bring out of his head. He gets help from the other Swollen Member, member, Prevail, in songs such as "Grenade Launcher," which sounds like the listener has been transported to a dark circus. No, I don't like every song on this album, but that is because I haven't gotten completely into the hip-hop and rap vibes, but I adore over half of this album which surpasses most rap album where I only like one or two songs. I would recommend this album to anyone, regardless or their music preferences, that's just how much I enjoy this vibe MadChild spins. It makes me feel like the Grimm fairy tales are alive and twisting inside of his dark mind.

This man has inspired me my whole life. No one really knows who he is, but he's lived a crazy life and he has a lot of experience to share and as he would say, "I hope they understand me, 'cause if they don't, it's too late to make a plan B." He's a man that could have had it all, and then he let it all slip away, and he's crawling his way up through it all again. That's inspiring. There isn't a day that goes by in my life that I don't wish I had the drive that he has. And every day I hope he makes it bigger than before, because he deserves it. Its sad to see people who are given everything without struggle or talent get big and have everything. And yet this truly talented man, trips over himself, struggling his way through everything, plus he has to do it twice.

"I almost made it to the top... Then it had to Stop-"
